Introduction to Library Technical
Services | Technical Services Processes

The paper was an accumulation of everything this class taught. I learned what kind of information was available through Worldcat (that didn’t deal with ILL’s). I also learned how to use Books In Print, local library catalogs, Kirkus Reviews, and Booklist Online. Learning about MARC records and how to fill out a request slip was also useful. Before even completing the request slip, studying the budget was a great exercise. The most challenging part was learning about the intricate technical processing system at Metropolitan Library System. There are many positions and tasks involved in the technical processing department. It is highly detail-oriented.

Library Management Skills and
Services | Library Management Skills Management Topic Paper

There are many facets to library management. It’s not just managing activities and personnel inside a library. Technical skills like budgeting, time management, delegation, knowledge of services and policies, and knowledge of staff roles are also important.

A lot of management is interpersonal relationships outside of the library. A good working relationship with the library commission, Friends of the Library, patrons, and other community groups can really add to the success and growth of a library. This paper focused on motivation. It’s a soft skill that’s equally important to staff and other relationships. It discusses the downfalls of poor motivation but also the perks of leading with good motivation.
