Introduction to Library Public
Services | Resources Paper

Much of the information in this class was about different resources and how to use them. I learned some of the strengths and weaknesses of different resources. This is beneficial knowledge no matter what kind of work you do in a library. For example, the internet has a ton of information but not all of it is reliable. Databases with scholarly journals, the invisible web, and online directories may provide more reliable information than a blog or general google search. Even using a general search engine can provide better results using Boolean operators. I was surprised by how much information could be found using WorldCat. If something can’t be found, it may be available in a different format. It’s important to provide options to the public.

Library Issues Paper

I wish this had been the first class I took instead of the last. It was a great overview of library professions. It made it easier to see the importance of intellectual freedom and access. It covered the history, types, organizations, operations, technology, and challenges of libraries. Some of these challenges include security, banned materials, and copyright ethics. My paper focused on the challenge of patron behavior.
